Lesson C - History & Facts of the EU
In Lesson C - EU History and Facts, the classroom was transformed into an interactive discovery zone where European history was anything but "dry." Students participated in a high-energy workshop centred on a competitive educational game that tested their knowledge of EU facts, with a true or false game. By using the EU Treaties and Countries Timelines as active-learning tools, participants collaborated to visually map the continent’s journey, making sense of how the Union expanded over decades. This hands-on session emphasized teamwork and quick thinking, proving that learning about political structures can be an engaging and social experience.
The second half of the lesson focused on a compelling presentation that traced the EU’s evolution from the post-WWII rubble to a global leader in peace. We explored the Schuman Declaration’s genius in pooling resources to prevent war, the official formation of the Union through the Maastricht Treaty, and the landmark arrival of the Euro in our pockets. By discussing modern milestones like the Nobel Peace Prize and the UK's withdrawal, the students gained a profound perspective on how the EU functions as a living, breathing entity. The outcome was a newfound appreciation for how these historical treaties and facts are woven into the fabric of our daily lives, from the money we use to the borders we cross.
