Lesson F - Media Literacy

In Lesson E - EU Values, the classroom became a lively, interactive forum where students actively explored the core principles that unite Europe. Guided by the official learning guidelines, participants dived into a highly engaging educational game using specialized discussion cards. Instead of simply listening to lectures, students collaborated and analyzed complex scenarios that brought abstract political concepts to life. This hands-on workshop required critical thinking and teamwork, discovering shared European principles, a dynamic, fun, and deeply relatable experience.

The second half of the lesson shifted to a thought-provoking presentation of statements intended to prompt a class discussion of European Union values. Students engaged in lively debates over challenging dilemmas, such as exploring the concept of solidarity by questioning whether other EU countries should step in to help a member state unable to pay its debts. They also tackled human rights, debating whether the EU should refuse business with regimes that violate human rights even if the deal is economically beneficial, and examined tolerance and pluralism by discussing the freedom to wear religious symbols at school and work. The outcome of this lesson gave students a profound understanding of how complex these core values are to navigate in the real world, empowering them to confidently voice their opinions while respecting diverse viewpoints.
