Lesson H - All About: Geography
In Lesson H - All About: Geography, students participated in an interactive workshop centred around the "EU-Rail" educational game. Working in teams with a map of Europe, an Interrail ticket, and a simulated budget, participants planned a cross-continent journey to collect points. At each destination, students had to unlock their next move by completing "Country Cards," which required them to research capital cities, translate basic phrases into the local language, and identify famous landmarks. The groups also hunted for bonus points by finding geographical connections, such as rivers that cross multiple borders or towns twinned with those in Greece, turning factual research into a highly engaging and competitive collaborative activity.
The second part of the lesson transitioned to a presentation and plenary session in which students showcased their findings. Through an interactive quiz round, each group presented four pieces of information about a country they visited—including specific examples of how that nation benefits from being an EU Member State—while the rest of the class guessed the location. The primary outcome of this lesson was a concrete understanding of how Europe's physical and political geography facilitates interconnectedness. Students walked away inspired to travel, with a deeper appreciation for the cultural and social links that unite European citizens across borders.
